After just a few months in the position, Dru Nass is now officially the former Head of Rugby of Durban High School, having returned to the Eastern Cape (Queens Junior) for personal reasons.
Once described as the complete package teacher/coach Nass joined DHS from East London high school Hudson Park, where he had enjoyed relative success as the first team rugby coach and also had a good water polo background. His rugby appointment formed a key component in DHS’s preparations for their 150th birthday year in 2016. Apart from heading up rugby, Nass also coached the DHS under-16A team.
No doubt the DHS Governing Body will now go all out to attract the right man for the job. With Hilton having backed off substantially on the pay grade of their 1st XV coach with the recent appointment of teacher AC Blume, it’s now unclear who the best paid schoolboy rugby coach is in KwaZulu-Natal at present. Given the DHS have a strong group of under-15’s and under-14’s coming through and the importance of these youngsters to “School’s” success in 2016, this Head of Rugby job could quite easily turn out to be the best paying one in the province.
An advert for the post which may or may not be restructured a little, is expected out soon.
